A vat collection of article ar at Chicami. isiitim, a 200 extra hands, the train from the East with 300, and the Housatonic road employed all they could procure. The mails were of course sadly disarranged, and we seemed for a time i ot out in very troth from the rest of the world, but it was somewhat comforting to know that we did not monopolize the storm and that many other localities to the West of us were in the same predicament.

Thus has passed one of the severest storms ever known throughout this region and we trust that we may not be compelled to repeat this experience, at least during the present season. The Storm EiKwaauav; This section was by no means the only one visited by the terrific gale of last week. It extended from Halifax to Fort Monroe and the Jama River and at th West the storm waa very severe. The railroads the entire length of middle New York fared little better than the Western. At Albany and Troy nothing approaching this storm for severity has been known since 1835, and both cities were isolated, so far as railroad communication was concerned, from Thursday night until Sunday.

The snow fell heavily on Fuday. It waa two or two and a half feet deep on a level, and the heavy wind blew it into enormous drifts, which made travel by rail or otherwise almost an impossibility. The Hudson River Railroad had little difficulty south of Hudson, N. but a good deal north of that point. On the northern portion of the Harlem Railroad several trains were snowed in, and unabl to move either way until Sunday.

All the railroads around Troy were completely blockaded, Friday. The New York Central Railroad had almost as rough an experience as the Western. It was so obviously useless that little attempt waa made to do anything toward breaking out the road on Friday, but Saturday and Sunday were employed to good advantage, and trains wer running on Monday on time-Some of the train on these roads were completely buried up in snow-banks, and tber wss not a little suffering among th passenger. Th Rom and Watertown Railroad was badly blosked up. In tb extreme western portion of New York th storm was, if possible, more severe than in th eastern.

The Lak Shore Railroad was so badly blocked up between Buffalo and Dunkirk that all attempts to break it out wer abandoned till the cessation of the storm, and the work must now occupy several days, so effectual is the embargo. Cleveland, saw no trains from Buffalo for three days. Th Orand Trunk rand was partially obstructed, but tb Great Wasters waa soon cleared. Th storm did not extend a far south a th Erie Railroad, to do much damage in th way of obstructing travel, and the train on that road i ui i concealed.
