Kelly Bain of Salem, Leanna Burfleld of Bennington, Susan Jackson and Timothy Narklewlcz, both of Cambridge, and Danielle Verderosa of Hoosick Falls were recently selected as the winners of music scholarships awarded by the Bennington County Choral Society. Students Earn Scholarships In Musical Talent Auditions Because He Thinks The Price Is Too Low by Uz Caspari. BENNINGTON, VT. Five area high school students were winners at the 1989 Bennington County Choral Society scholarship auditions, which took place on May 23. The five students, selected from a field of 11 competitors were Kelly Bain of Salem, voice; Leanna Bur-feind of Bennington, piano; Susan Jackson of Cambridge, voice; Timothy Narkiewicz of Cambridge, piano; and Danielle Verderosa of Hoosick Falls, piano.

Annually the choral society awards up to five $100 scholarships to talented young musicians from the Bennington County, eastern New York and northern Berkshire areas. The purpose of the scholarships is to provide financial support for the continued study of music. The stiiuiaisiiip awaius aic udscu on a competitive audition. Judges at this years competition were Otha Day of Williamstown, Linda Morgan of Hoosick Falls and Ellen Sager of Bennington, Vt. At the conclusion of the evening Morgan said, Its wonderful the students spend the time to prepare for such a competition.

Sager added, We had the difficult task of selecting five out of 1 1 outstanding musicians. Day said, The students were all very good and fun to listen to. Burfeind and Verderosa are piano students of Rosamond van der Linde of Bennington, Narkiewicz studies piano with Christopher Pierce of Shushan, Bain studies voice with Deborah Silverstein of Salem, and Jackson is a voice student of Douglas Bischoff of Cambridge. A free public reception is planned for Saturday, June 24 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Epstein develops surreal and humorous themes in his work. He captured Nabiscos national competition with his Ultimate Cookie Jar a few years ago. To Epstein, It is very important to me that my work not only looks good, but that it is well made. Having worked in a variety of media, Caspari continues to be drawn to clay for its immediacy and malleability. Included in her show at the art center will be sculpture, relief and tile paintings inspired by the Medieval Bestiaries.

A Visit to the Past Wealth, military and political prestige dwelt in Old Saratoga, now Schuylerville, in the 18th century, and a lovely large 1777 country home remains there, now open for public visitation. Located on Route 4, the house was once the scene of visits by General George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Adams and John Jay. 'Educating Rita The Dorset Theatre Festival will swing its doors open on Thursday, June 22 with Willy Russell's effervescent comedy "Educating Rita, a smash both in New York and London, which opens the season with a tender, tantalizing taste of British wit.
