People Saturday-Sunday, January 22-23, 2000 6 Weekend Reformer as Club notes Senior center Carolyn Blake married Dec. 11 to Robert Deyo SPRINGFIELD Carolyn Ann Blake and Robert Thayer Deyo were married in a double ring ceremony at the Springfield United Methodist Church by the Rev. William Sherw-ertsonDec. 11, 1999. The matron of honor was Janet Putnam, friend of the bride and bridegroom, of Brattle-boro.

The ring bearer was Susannah Colby, daughter of the bride, of Srpingfield. The best man was David Putnam, friend of the bride and bridegroom, of Brattleboro. Samuel Colby, son of the bride of Springfield, gave his mother away. The couple met on a train at six years old. In 1954 they met as freshmen at Brattleboro High School and dated for two years.

Carolyns mother disapproved of the match. They met again in 1995. their The bride sang Unchained Melody," teenage love song, during the ceremony. A reception followed. Christine Carrier weds Eric Hume baked beans, hot dogs, seafood chowder, chicken-vegetable soup, etc.

At this months Council on Aging lunch the Grange served 100 lunches. Windham County Pomona Grange will meet at Dummer-ston on Thursday, Jan. 27. Supper at 6:30 p.m. followed by the business meeting and a Home Safety program by Windham County Deputy Sheriff, Virginia Owsiak.

The snow date for this meeting is Feb. 24. American Legion BURLINGTON The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion of Vermont will conduct their Annual Mid-Winter Conference at the Radisson Hotel in Burlington on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28 and 29. Special committee meetings will be held on Friday, with a conference banquet Friday evening for all members and guests attending the conference.

The guest speaker for the evening will be National Vice Commander Robert Bob Neville from Southold, N.Y. Neville will be representing the American Legion National Headquarters of Indianapolis. Evening Club BRATTLEBORO The Brattleboro Womans Evening Club met on Dec. 1, 1999, at the Centre Congregational Church for a pot luck dinner with guests invited. President Mary Laitres welcomed and thanked the dinner committee, June Generous, Helene Renaude, Linda Caswell, Christine Rice, Connie Weldon, June Manning and Pat Wood.

The members brought yarn to be given to the senior knitters to make things for the Christmas Stocking next year. Manning of the project committee presented three choices and the members chose to give the money to Kurn Hattin. The next meeting will be Feb 2 and will be a dessert meeting held in the upstairs parlor of the Centre Congregational Church at 7 p.m. Joanp Holbrook announced that' the program will, be a nutrition workshop given by Chris Ellis from the Brattleboro Food Co-op. Carol Johnson introduced Ken and Cal Heil, who presented a program of Christmas music with sing-alongs.

New members are always Eagles Auxiliary 244S BRATTLEBORO Members are invited to attend the presentation of a large print book on Saturday, Jan. 22, at 9:30 a.m. at the Brooks Memorial Library in Brattleboro. This book will assist the visually impaired to enjoy and use the library. This donation is made possible by the Auxiliary.

On Jan. 5 the Auxiliary voted a donation to the Winston Prouty Center. At the same meeting it was announced that the Auxiliary Valentines Dance on Feb. 5 is being chaired by Barbara Tidd. The band will be the Inside Straight.

Tickets are available at the Eagles Club. After discussion, it was voted to change the 2000 Christmas party to Sunday, Dec. 3, at 4 p.m. The next meeting is on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at the Eagles Club, 30 Terrace Brattleboro.

Brattleboro Lodge 102 F. A.M. BRATTLEBORO All members of Brattleboro Lodge 102 F. A.M., their families, and guests are welcome to attend a Super Bowl party on Sunday, Jan. 30, at 4 p.m.

at the lodge. The party will include watching the game on big screen television, a buffet of food, pocket billiards, and other games. To cover costs, a donation of $10 is requested. Evening Star Grange 154 DUMMERSTON The Grange met last week for the annual dues-paying potluck supper with 1 1 present despite the weather. Caryl Simeon, lecturer, presented the first step of this years program Stairway to Grange Growth. The overall Grange theme this year is Todays World Grangers Reaching Out, with emphasis on the foster parent program. The projects of the various committees were discussed. A memorial donation was voted to the Windham County Historical Society and the Grange hosted the Windham County Sugarmakers on Wednesday.

The next Grange-sponsored congregate meal is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 26, (snow date Jan. 27) and will feature BRATTLEBORO Activities and meals at the Gibson-Aiken Senior Center at 207 Main St. for the week of Jan. 24 are as follows: Monday 9:15 Clogging.

BRATTLEBORO Christine M. Carrier of Fair-field, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Carrier of Brattleboro, was married Oct. 30 to Eric J.

Hume, also of Fairfield. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew- P. Hume of Veazie, Maine.

The ceremony was performed at Centre Congregational Church by the Rev. Fred Edmonds. Music was provided by organist Philip Stimmel and Bagpiper Bruce Gillespie. A reception at the Putney Inn followed the ceremony. Serving her sister as maid of honor w-as Allison C.

Hume of Newton, all brothers of the bridegroom. Readers for the wedding w-ere Reilly Millette and Lisa Hume. The bride graduated from Brattleboro Union High School and the University of Vermont. She received a masters degree in public administration from the University of New Hampshire. She is currently a senior associate at Moran Associates a commercial real estate appraisal firm in Stamford, Conn.

The bridegroom graduated from Orono High School and the University of Maine, He received 1 a masters degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts. He is currently a manager at Distribution Management Systems, a computer software company in Milford, Conn. Following a wedding trip to the Virgin Islands, the couple will live in Fairfield, Conn. College news Champlain College BURLINGTON Robin L. Castine of Vernon, daughter of Douglas and Eileen Castine.

a senior in the Public Relations Media Communications program and a graduate of Brattleboro Union High School has been named to the presidents list for the 1999 fall semester at Champlain College. Bates College LEWISTON, Maine Justin D. Stebbins of Hinsdale, N.H., participated in Simply Fabulous," a Bates College Modern Dance Company concert showcasing the talents of student artists and featuring Just A Moment, a work-in-progress commissioned by the college as part of its millennial celebration. Stebbins, a sophomore, participated in Just A Moment." He also danced in the spring 1999 Rolling Hills HINSDALE. N.H.

Activities at Rolling Hills Village each week include: Mondays, 1 p.m.. Bingo; Wednesdays, 1 p.m., Pokeno; Thursdays, 6 p.m., Uno; Fridays, 1-4 p.m.. Rummy. All these events are for residents and guests. The committee was Eugene and Beverly Lehane.

Nancy Burke of Jamaica, has been awarded a master of science degree in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Environmental Biology from Antioch New England Graduate School. Burke is a water quality operator at the Winhall-Station fire district in Stratton, Vt. She passed the Vermont State Grade 1 wastewater exam and is enrolled in the Vermont Dec Laboratory Certification course. She also volunteers as a water quality monitor for the West River Water Quality-project for Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center in West Brattleboro, Vt. Carol A.

Castine has been awarded a master of arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Antioch New- England Graduate School. She is a home-based specialist for Early Education Services in Brattleboro, and a group therapist with Marathon of Brattleboro. Marianne Catherine Buswell of Brattleboro has been awarded a master of arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Antioch New England Graduate School. Buswell is a school based clinician with HCRS, a community mental health agency and also works with a placement agency providing therapeutic foster care in her community. College of the Holy Cross WORCESTER, Mass Tim Blicharz of Bellows Falls was named to the dean's list for the first semester at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. Blicharzs majors are chemistry and music. University of Vermont BRATTLEBORO Graham Fitch of Marlboro and Brattleboro Union High School class of 1997, has placed on the deans list at the University of Vermont for his excellent academic performance this past semester. She lives in Brattleboro and is the daughter of Peter and Judith Nero. Thirty-one students were named to the schools deans list. Nero is a sophomore at the University the oldest and largest institution of higher learning in Vermont. Hamilton College CLINTON, Y. Kevin Zavorotny.

The bride-to-be is a 1996 graduate of Brattleboro Union High School and holds an associates degree from Hesser College in travel and tourism. She is employed as an educational travel consultant by Lyon Travel Agency. The future bridegroom is a 1994 graduate of Thayer High School and is employed as a security guard at Wackenhut Corp. A wedding date of Sept. 9 has been set.
